We have collected answers to some of our most commonly asked question here just for you. If you're still not sure, ask us!

How is a cake designed?

Our clients' satisfaction is very important to us. You will be involved in each step of the design process. We ask for your favorite flavors and work with your suggestions to come up with the most delightful combination. We go over all the important stuff like the event themes, colors and preferred styles etc. You can also show us a photo if you have an inspiration. To make it more special, you can also provide fabric swatches, stationery, or details of the florals to be used at your event so we can coordinate the design. After gathering all this information, we come up with a draft design and a quote for you. Once you approve the design, we are ready to make sweet things happens!

Do you have a flavor's list?

If you already know what flavour you are after, let us know! Or if you're not so sure, don't worry. We can provide you with a cake flavours and fillings list that you can use as a guide. If you're still having trouble picking up the combinations or even if you have no idea where to start altogether, just let us know and we'll sort it out together.

What kind of cakes do you do?

Our cakes are layered alternating between the cake and the filling as both of them are equally important. Each slice gets lots of each element making it more enjoyable. Cakes can be divided according to their shape (standard/sculpted), size (diameter/height), configuration (single/multi-tiered) and finishing style (naked/semi-naked/buttercream/fondant).

How to determine how much cake I need?

We can help you with that. It depends on the number of guests to be served and whether the cake is going to be the main dessert or served alongside other desserts. If the cake is going to be the main dessert, we'll provide enough cake for full dessert portions. If it is being served with coffee in addition to other dessert(s), the required serving size (coffee portions) is around half that of dessert portions.

Another factor to consider is whether you wish to keep the top tier for your anniversary. If so, the top tier will not be included in the calculation of serving sizes for your event, and the cake will be correspondingly larger.

How to book a date?

Once you have received  a quote and have confirmed our availability, you will need to make a deposit of 50% of the quoted price to make a booking for your special day. Payment of the balance is due one month prior to the delivery date. For bookings made with less than one month notice, payment must be made in full to confirm the order.

How far in advance should I book?

We require wedding cake bookings at least six weeks in advance to allow us time to finalize the design and source any required specialty ingredients or decorative elements. However, it is best to enquire as soon as possible once you have confirmed your date and venue as our calendar can fill up early, particularly for the peak wedding seasons of <March-April and October-November>. The same timelines apply for other large orders (e.g. large parties, corporate events).

For smaller cakes, we can often work with much shorter timeframes, and request that bookings are made at least one week in advance. However, as with wedding cakes, we recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

If you are in a state of panic (don’t panic!) and need a cake sooner than described above, feel free to get in touch and we’ll do our absolute best to accommodate your request (these things happen!), but be aware that your flavour and design options may be more limited in these cases.

What makes some cakes more expensive than others?

Three factors influence the price of a cake:

The first is the cost of the ingredients and non-edible materials (e.g. dowelling, cake boards, cake boxes, etc.) required for your chosen flavours and design. Some ingredients (e.g. gold and silver leaf, couverture chocolate, freeze-dried fruit powders, fresh berries etc) cost a premium for us to use, and this cost is incorporated into the quote. 

The second is the time required to create your chosen design. Simple designs take less time, while designs incorporating sugar flowers or intricate detailing or structure work take more time, and time is money! 

The third is the size of your cake - a cake to serve 150 people will cost more than a cake to serve 20, and likewise a cake to serve dessert portions to 80 people will cost more than the same number of coffee portions.

Do you you charge more for wedding cakes?

Put simply, no - we don’t charge a “wedding premium” for our work.

Every cake we make is costed according to the ingredients, time, and number of serving sizes required, and our baseline prices per serve are the same whether the cake is for a wedding, engagement, birthday, baby shower, christening, graduation, or any other event. Having said that, many people will find that the cake they order for their wedding is larger and more elaborate than any other cake they order in their life. Scaling a birthday cake for 20 people up to a wedding cake in the same design and flavours for 200 people will obviously result in a much higher total price, but the cost per serve will be the same.

Can you accommodate allergies or other dietary requirements?

We think everyone deserves to get delicious, beautiful cake, so we are developing a collection of recipes to cater to those with allergies to gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, and other items, or who follow a vegan diet. Feel free to get in touch about creating a cake to suit your dietary requirements and we will work to create something special for you. Please note that while we will avoid using any problem ingredients and take the utmost of care, all our products are prepared in the same kitchen using the same equipment, so we cannot guarantee that trace elements of these ingredients will not be present. If trace particles could cause anaphylaxis or another severe reaction, you would be safer getting your cake from a supplier that can guarantee the absence of those ingredients. Can we hire a cake stand or platter to display our cake?

Yes! We have an extensive collection of beautiful yet sturdy cake stands and platters that can (safely!) elevate your cake to make it the centrepiece of your event. Chat to us about the appropriate size, colour, finish, and shape to best display your cake.
